The Microsoft interview is a job interview technique used by Microsoft to assess possible future Microsoft employees. It is significant because Microsoft's model was pioneering, and later picked up and developed by other companies, including Google. InnovationThe Microsoft Interview was a pioneer in that it was about technical knowledge, problem solving and creativity as opposed to the goal and weaknesses interviews most companies used at the time. Initially based on Bill Gates' obsession with puzzles, many of the puzzles presented during interviews started off being fermi problems, or sometimes logic problems, and have eventually transitioned over the years into questions relevant to programming: [P]uzzles test competitive edge as well as intelligence. Like business or football, a logic puzzle divides the world into winners and losers. You either get the answer, or you don't... Winning has to matter. Joel Spolsky phrased the problem as identifying people who are smart and gets things done while separating them from people who are smart but don't get things done and people who get things done but are not smart This model is now used widely in the IT Industry. This is why you NEVER lie about what you may or may not know. It will come back to bite you. Let it be a lesson in the future. For now, however, just sit down and play with it a little bit. If you can't get your hands on an actual copy of Excel, search online for a free download of a spread sheet. The basic functions are pretty much the same from one spreadsheet program to the next. I have used Quattro Pro (Corel spreadsheet) and the Microsoft Works spreadsheet along with Excel and all are pretty much interchangeable. The basics are the same. Good luck and next time, do not lie! Answered by sno - Sat Apr 5 13:56:27 2008 Possible interview questions and good answers for an accounting major in the auditing field...? Q. I have a friend who is applying for internships at many financial companies like liberty mutual, john hancock, and microsoft in the auditing department, but she doesn't have much experience with interviews. I wanted to do a "mock" interview with her to prepare her better, but I'm not sure what kinds of questions are asked, and what a good response would look like. Also, any suggestions on making a good impression during the interview would also be appreciated. THanks! Asked by Lo P - Tue Sep 23 12:44:39 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Tell her to do some research on each company and have some specific questions prepared. They will likely ask why she wants the internship and what her longer-term career goals are. "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" is still a common question. Why do you want to work for XYZ company? I think it is important to have company-specific questions as it will show she was interested and serious enough to do some research. Q. Got an interview coming up soon, and they want some basic knowledge of VBA. Was hoping to learn a little at home. Am unemployed so need to buy the cheapest alternative, but don't know if VBA is built into all editions of excel. Have Microsoft Works, but that's no use. Maybe I can lease the software? Anyway thanks for reading!
