Job satisfaction describes how content an individual is with his or her job. The happier people are within their job, the more satisfied they are said to be. Job satisfaction is not the same as motivation, although it is clearly linked. Job design aims to enhance job satisfaction and performance, methods include job rotation, job enlargement and job enrichment. Other influences on satisfaction include the management style and culture, employee involvement, empowerment and autonomous work groups. Job satisfaction is a very important attribute which is frequently measured by organizations. The most common way of measurement is the use of rating scales where employees report their reactions to their jobs. Questions relate to rate of pay, work responsibilities, variety of tasks, promotional opportunities the work itself and co-workers. Some questioners ask yes or no questions while others ask to rate satisfaction on 1-5 scale (where 1 represents "not at all satisfied" and 5 represents "extremely satisfied"). DefinitionsJob satisfaction has been defined as a pleasurable emotional state resulting from the appraisal of one’s job; an affective reaction to one’s job; and an attitude towards one’s job. Weiss (2002) has argued that job satisfaction is an attitude but points out that researchers should clearly distinguish the objects of cognitive evaluation which are affect (emotion), beliefs and behaviours. This definition suggests that we form attitudes towards our jobs by taking into account our feelings, our beliefs, and our behaviors. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Do you think its ok to work for money and not job satisfaction? Q. I am stuck in a s*** job, but the moneys good, theres not much work,, but there is no job satisfaction.. now the question here is should I try to make it more interesting cause right now I dont have that many options and secondly the money is quite good.. so dont know.. Asked by klo moko - Tue Jun 17 07:21:59 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I think we all do that from time to time. Use this job to figure out what it is you do like about the job and what you don't like. Take that information and start looking for employment that you do feel would satisfy you. When you have a job that you are making good money in, it gives you more leverage as you look for more suitable employment. So the answer to your question is: Short term-yes; Long term-No (for your own satisfaction) Answered by TX Cyclone - Tue Jun 17 07:56:38 2008 What s more important to you Job satisfaction or the Pay Cheque? Q. Whats more important to you, having a well paid job that you don t enjoy, and its sh t everyday! Or a job you love which doesn t pay well! My opinion is that the Pay Cheque is more important, as I want to provide an excellent life for my Family in the future and the thought of this means I m willing to work in a job I hate where the money is good. Asked by Rich - Thu Feb 28 11:25:17 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. Job satisfaction!!! I'm in a relativly well paid job that I loath right now and am desperately trying to get out and back into the line of work that I love but isn't as well paid (although has great prospects). Knowing from personal experience, doing a job I dislike is making me misrable and the boredom is preventing me from sleeping properly! Money can't buy you happiness but enjoyment in your job can definately make it better!! If someone were to ask me if I'd prefer a pay rise or my old job back ... it's be the old job any day!!! And for anyone who's wondering, I was made redundant, I didn't want to leave it :-( Answered by Taloollah - Thu Feb 28 11:31:34 2008 What is more important, more money or job satisfaction?
Q. Currently starting a new contract as a full time employee working for a college teaching. The hours and holidays are great, but have just interviewed for another position not in teaching which offers 6000 more per year. I have a family of four and retired from past employer two years ago at 40 years old. This new employers work is non-stressful and in an office environment. I worry that I burn the bridge with the current employer and end up being disappointed with the new employer. What would you do? Asked by Janso - Tue Jul 24 14:42:20 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. I am in the process of changing jobs - there is marginally more money in the new one due to a benefits package which doesn't exist with the current one - but that is outweighed by being a bit further to drive. I am happy to be moving though because the environment and the work and the expectations are much better than at my current company. Go with what makes you feel best - do a list of good & bad where money is just one item - unless you really, really need the dosh and are willing to take a risk!
